ABOUT US
Proudly serving the salt lake valley for over 70 years.
In a nutshell, we are the original Thompson Family of heating and cooling professionals. We have been serving the Salt Lake Area since 1947! We’re the former owners of Thompson and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning and have been in the industry for four generations.
William (Bill Sr) J. Thompson started in the HVAC business in 1946, after WWII. He originally had a partner, Jack Billows, and the company was originally called Thompson and Billows. In the 1950s, Bill & John divided the company and Thompson and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning was born. In 1982, Bill Sr. retired and his son, Gene Thompson bought the company.
Gene and his son (Bill Jr) grew the company over the next few years and in 1997, they sold Thompson and Sons to a large, nationwide company. Gene and Bill continued to manage the company through 2005, but the corporate environment was never a good fit for Gene and Bill. Some of the things they were expecting of us just didn’t fit well with our philosophy so when Gene retired, Bill resigned and started Thompson’s Comfort Connection in 2005.
We have returned to our roots of being a local, family owned and operated business. Bill has a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Utah and can handle any heating, cooling, or ventilation project. We are still in the same building located in Midvale, 7682 S Maple Street (60 West), providing the same level of service that we always have. Although we are no longer named “Thompson and Sons,” Bill Thompson and his sons, Mike and Colton, continue the family legacy of providing excellent service to the Salt Lake Valley.

FAQs
Our team at Thompson’s Comfort Connection is always here to answer questions on common HVAC topics for our clients, helping them make informed decisions about their heating and cooling systems. Here are some frequently asked questions that we have compiled for your convenience:
What are the main types of HVAC systems?
There are three main types of HVAC systems: split, packaged, and ductless. Split systems consist of both indoor and outdoor components, while packaged systems combine all components into one unit placed outside the building. Ductless systems use individual units mounted on walls or ceilings to heat or cool specific areas.
How often should I change my air filter?
It is recommended to change your air filter every 1-3 months, depending on factors such as pets, allergies, and overall indoor air quality. Neglecting to change your air filter can lead to reduced efficiency and potentially damage your HVAC system. Regularly changing your air filter helps keep the air in your home clean, improves the performance of your HVAC system, and can save you money on energy bills.
How can I improve the efficiency of my HVAC system?
Simple maintenance tasks such as regularly changing filters, cleaning vents and ducts, and keeping outdoor units clear of debris can greatly improve the efficiency of your HVAC system. Additionally, investing in a programmable thermostat or upgrading to a more energy-efficient model can also help reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills.
Is seasonal HVAC maintenance truly necessary?
Yes, seasonal HVAC maintenance is necessary to ensure the proper functioning and efficiency of your system. Regular maintenance can also catch potential issues before they become major problems, saving you time and money in the long run.
What should I look for in an HVAC service provider?
When choosing an HVAC service provider, it’s important to consider their experience, reputation, and customer reviews. It’s also a good idea to ask about their licensing and insurance, as well as any warranties or guarantees they offer for their services.
For these or any other questions you have, don’t hesitate to reach out to your local HVAC professionals for expert advice and assistance.
